I made a camera from EPSON flatbed scanner. I selected (GT-S620)CCD type scanner. Bacause of..

  • CCD type scanner has 4.5(x6) size CCD, not A4 size. it is more suitable CCD size for digital camera.
  • it has lens.it means more similar structure to normal digital camera.
  • GT-S620 uses LED lights. Traditional scanner uses a fluorescent light. I think LED light has more accurate color-balance than flourescent light.

Then, I began to build my new camera, but i have mamy problems to build scanner camera.

  • Initializing problem: EPSON scanner driver checks health of scanner when power on, and begining scan. Checking Lights, and Senser Position. I set fake LED Lights and Senser cover.
  • Color offset problem: scanner's CCD structure is 3 lines RGB senser. When moving different sppeed from original one, RGB color offset is not correct. it can't fix on hardware, then i fixed on Gimp. In future , I will write Script-Fu.

I have applied these fixes, Picture is generated below.

Pros:

  • it can generate over 100,000,000 pixels image.
  • not bayer senser. True RGB pixels
  • large (capture) senser size. more than 35mm film. like a 645 size.

Cons:

  • it has many, many Cons :-)
